Believe it or not, I have an update to my War Hounds Space Marines force - and direction has inspired me on a bit of a path. You know sometimes when you're painting and it just hits you that the direction should be this way? That happened!! Having started using two simple tools, I now have a better idea of how they would have been armed and then using the fluff I know, it helped the look. Elites can be easy because they have better gear, but what about the foot slogging Tactical War Hounds? Well I think I might have it! + + More After The Jump + + |

Here's the first of the Vexillas which will be carried by each of my War Hounds squads. What do you think? Do you use the Vexilla in combat? Have you found it handy? What's the best way to use it?
Building a 30K force (or even a 40K force) can be really daunting when you first start out. Most of us start by making some models we like and look good and kind of fit into what we think fits into a squad. Having gone through The Horus Heresy books to look at the Legion rules, there is a lot to read and a lot to absorb - again very daunting! So while surfing the net to find a definitive answer to how my War Hounds Legion should be armed and structured, I found probably the best written and straight forward article on making a 30k Legion. The article is from a really unlikely source too: 1d4chan! I'm not really an 1d4chan guy, but do yourself a favour and have a look over the way this article is written. It goes through each unit, the best things to include, or not, and why. It takes into consideration points, play value and in really plain straight forward language - it's so straight forward to get to grips with! I found this SO handy and frankly having looked around the internet and through those big glossy pages of the Horus Heresy books, I would be floundering still if not for it. Another discovery, thanks to regular contributor Rob, is BattleScribe - a free App that makes it so easy to plan your squads with the use of drop down options and adds the points up for you. It then gives it to you in a standard format for easy reading which includes the stats for each unit. I ended up using the two in conjunction with each other and had a blast! I've now divided the miniatures I had painted up into their new squads and worked out what I need to paint AND started applying squad decals to the right miniatures! Anyway - give the article a 5 minute look over and you'll be hooked!
Hope this helps design your force and allow you to build your army quicker and with purpose.

When my review of the Sicaran Battle tank from Forge World (and the questions raised about Forge World as a whole) hit Bell of Lost Souls in November it caused an absolute storm! Some people were unable to think that Forge World could possibly produce substandard product AND charge a premium for them. That being said, my progression with that very Sicaran Battle tank kit has progressed somewhat and is nearly done. Considering I teased it earlier on the Project: War Hounds page, I thought I'd show you this almost completed turret to my first War Hounds legion vehicle! What do you think? Look like it's heading in the right direction?
I was saying recently how disappointing there wasn't more to do with the Successor Chapters in the Sons of Sanguinius Blood Angels Painting Guide. It would seem pretty logical - but alas. BUT it seems there was some more information in the Blood Angels Codex. So for your viewing pleasure, here are the Successor Chapters (minus the Lamenters)! So what do you think? Have the Flesh Tearers gone rogue and betrayed the Empire, has the Empire betrayed them or have they given into the Black Rage?
Notice I also added Great Crusade era markings having trawled through the 3 Horus Heresy books to find out where icons were placed and why. Having those kind of icons on the gloves (especially with MKIII) seemed to be very popular.
You may have seen that the folks over at La Taberna de Laurana uploaded a sneak peak of the upcoming Grey Knights releases today, so here's a closer look at the sets. Having a look at the new prices (the Strike Squad doubles in price for example but for twice the miniatures) only time will tell what value we get by these reboxings and if there is any new material in them. Do notice however that the Purgation and Interceptor squads are missing from the line-up, unless they are alternate configurations in the sets. + + More images below + +
